Quick Summary

Underdog, a fast-growing sports company valued at $1.3 billion, aims to make sports more fun by building the best products, including fantasy games, sports betting, and prediction markets, all within a single app. The company fosters a culture for passionate, driven individuals who "give a sh\*t" and is seeking a founding Site Reliability Engineer to define its entire approach to reliability, scalability, and operational excellence from the ground up. This pivotal role involves significant ownership and impact, requiring the SRE to work closely with platform, infrastructure, and product teams to ensure systems can handle massive traffic spikes and new feature rollouts. Key responsibilities include owning the full incident response lifecycle by defining procedures and tools, championing the implementation of Service Level Objectives (SLOs) with smart alerting and reporting, and leading capacity planning to keep the infrastructure ahead of the company's rapid growth. Here at Underdog, we have one simple goal: make sports more fun for everyone. We're convinced that if we build the best products out there, becoming the biggest name in the game will happen naturally. There's still so much more we can do for sports fans.

In just over five years, we've become one of the fastest-growing sports companies ever, with a recent valuation of $1.3 billion. And to be honest, we feel like we're just warming up. We've launched and scaled all sorts of games and products—fantasy, sports betting, prediction markets—and packed them all into one easy-to-use app.

But fair warning, a job at Underdog isn't for everyone. One of our core values is to genuinely "give a sh\*t." The people who do best here are driven, passionate, and obsessed with being at the top of their game. If that's you, we want you on our team. Because let's face it, winning is always sweeter when you're the Underdog.

This isn't just another SRE gig. It's a chance to be the *founding* Site Reliability Engineer at Underdog. You'll get to define our entire approach to reliability, scalability, and operational excellence as we keep growing like crazy. You'll start by digging in, figuring out our biggest reliability hurdles, and building our game plan for incident response, observability, and SLOs from the ground up.

This is a role where you'll make a huge impact and have real ownership from day one. You'll be working side-by-side with our platform, infrastructure, and product teams to make sure our systems can handle anything—from massive traffic spikes on game day to the constant rollout of new features. The goal is simple: make our systems more reliable and our developers' lives easier.

So, what will you be doing? For starters, you'll own incident response. That means you'll define the procedures, pick the tools, and set the standard for how our whole team handles incidents. You'll also be our champion for Service Level Objectives (SLOs), helping our teams set up and track the metrics that really matter, complete with smart alerting and clear reporting. On top of that, you'll take the lead on capacity planning, making sure our infrastructure is always one step ahead of our growth and ready for whatever comes next.
