Israel moves Yellow Line deeper into Gaza, satellite images show

The idea was that Israeli soldiers would move back past a certain spot — a "Yellow Line" they had on their maps.The Defence Minister, Israel Katz, gave a harsh warning: cross this line, he said, and you'll be "met with fire."Since then, some folks have actually died in that spot.The investigation showed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) moved at least 16 of these markers from where they originally were in the Beit Lahia, Jabalia, and al-Tuffah areas.They moved these blocks, on average, about 968 feet further down into the Strip.BBC Verify didn't just look at those moved blocks; they also checked out 205 other spots. They found that over half of these markers were actually way deeper inside Gaza than what the official maps showed.The IDF spokesperson definitely said they haven't moved the Yellow Line. They're just trying to make it easier to see, you know, based on what's actually there.Still, satellites are showing us that even three months after the ceasefire kicked in, there's a good six-mile section of land that's just... empty. No blocks anywhere.Some folks in Gaza are really having a tough time figuring out just where the IDF's claimed "dangerous combat zone" actually starts.For a 23-year-old guy close to Khan Younis, things got really scary last month when Israeli soldiers suddenly shifted those blocks way past where they were supposed to be on the map."We're stuck behind these yellow blocks, inside the Yellow Line, and honestly, we have no clue what's going to happen to us," the man told the BBC. But they didn't really say how they figured out these kids were actually suspects.Even with the ceasefire, we keep seeing videos and satellite pictures that show Israeli military vehicles going past where they're supposed to stop.Looks like things got a bit tense in Khan Younis and Beit Lahia. We saw some footage from Khan Younis that showed armored vehicles and bulldozers moving about 400 meters past what's called the Yellow Line. Then, an image from Beit Lahia popped up, revealing an Israeli tank and some other military vehicles operating roughly 260 meters beyond that same line.Usually, when the military moves like that, it means they're about to knock down some buildings nearby.Out in eastern Gaza City, it looks like the destruction was really planned out; satellite pictures show that hundreds of buildings were just, flattened, right up to where those blocks first went in.After they moved the markers, even more buildings got knocked down.In Jabalia, Israeli soldiers knocked down a school complex. It was located roughly 150 meters past the boundary line they'd set.The rubble ended up burying some of the markers, which made it impossible for Palestinians to actually see them.An IDF spokesperson talked about how their soldiers are really focused on taking apart Hamas's tunnel system. They said these tunnels supposedly go under buildings on both sides of the Yellow Line. The spokesperson mentioned that if they destroy these tunnels, it could make buildings on both sides of the line fall down.The current plan is to make a simple, clear solution.
